Why Forts were Build?

Forts are one of the glorious monuments which were built by the kings thousands of years back to defend their land against the enemies. India has so many forts than any countries in the world which depict the glorious past of Indian history . Many of the Forts were built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Founder of the Maratha State. Forts are known for their beautiful sculptures and architecture but the main goal of building forts was totally different.

Reis Magos Fort

Forts were like a watch tower used to keep a watch on the enemies and also guard the kingdom against outside attackers. The construction of the fort is so magnificent that is very difficult for enemies to enter in it. They had steep stairs, big doors for entry and exit for the elephants. The doors also have nails on it so that the no enemy elephant could break the door and enter in it. The forts also had a small hole or a window like structure to keep an eye on the enemy. The echoing sound on entrance could be easily heard so that the enemies get easily detected. This was how intellectual and magnificent the forts were built. Today, we all enjoy going to trek on forts but we don’t care about the condition of these forts.

Sinquerim Fort

People throw their eatery garbage here and there, write names on the walls of the Fort, which indirectly damages the historical monuments.

We as a responsible citizen of this country, we should save our glorious history for the future generation. The preserving of this fort should start within ourselves. Whenever visiting the fort or any public place do not litter. Do not scribble anything on the wall. Make others aware about the forts through drama or skit in school and other means. We should start all these things from us.

Aguada Fort

Later comes the government they should build proper toilets and bathrooms, give knowledge about the fort and the history behind it. Make drinking water available and make a ban on plastic bottles and bags. Install dust bins where ever necessary. Include local villagers to conserve them. India has an extraordinary and diverse pool of cultural heritage and ancient monuments in the form of buildings. Forts depict the glorious history of ours, they are our national heritage, they should be preserved. A little effort from our side can make a big change.
