Goa's Carnival popularly also known as “Viva Carnival” this year will be celebrated from 26 February till 1st March 2022 in the state capital Panaji. Goa is all set for its approaching festival of carnival, the most loved festival of the state.
Goa Carnival draws people into the crowd. This unique festival has been celebrated since the 18th century after it was introduced by the Portuguese rulers of Goa. This Carnival in Goa is also known with many names such as Intruz, Carnaval, Viva Carnival. Tourists from across the world visit Goa to enjoy the four-day festival along with their friends, and family. Loud music, dancing, and parties make up this four-day festival in the state. Huge Colorful parades with floats, bands, dances, and music are taken out all over Goa. Various types of Cultural artworks and music events are organized throughout the four-day-long festival. These are organized by the State Tourism Department. Large and colorful decorations with bright lights are seen in the street of Panjim and other cities.
The festival had attracted thousands of tourists every year due to the amazing sensation that it provides with a unique celebration. The float parade in Panaji will be led by a special float hosting King Momo, a specially decorated float. the legendary king Momo takes over the state and the streets come alive with music and color. Then begins the weeklong event, which is a time of enthusiastic festivity and merry-making, which has been celebrated since the 18th Century. The king and his followers arrive on “Fat Saturday”, the eve of the carnival, and a lively parade of colorful floats and troupes of revelers in vibrant costumes and masks, singing folk songs and dancing along the streets. Although the festival is primarily celebrated by Christians, people of all faiths join in the festivities.
The celebration of Goa's grand Carnival will begin on Saturday 26 February and the event will continue till Tuesday 1st March 2022. The time for the Carnival celebration is 03:00 pm. The four-day-long festival will be held in different places of the state starting from Panaji on 26th February, then Margao on 27th February, Vasco on 28th February, and Mapusa on 1st March.
