Description
The fort was originally constructed in 1612 to guard against the Dutch. It was used as a reference point for the ships arriving from Europe and refill freshwater in the ships. The fort got its name from the fresh water spring below the fort. The iconic lighthouse was constructed in 1864 and it is oldest in Asia. The fort had water storage chamber, gunpowder room, and a secret escape route. It had 79 cannons mounted on the fort.
Fort Aguada is 17 kms from Panjim. The place is usually visited in late afternoons as the sights of sunsets from the Aguada Fort is unmatchable.
